SOLIDSTEAD Concept Project

3D-Printable Drone Platform

A lightweight drone-platform concept for hobby and prototype applications, developed around additive manufacture and practical component integration.

Quad-rotor drone platform CAD concept with integrated circular propeller guards
Drone chassis and assembly concept supplied from the STEP model.
Design approach

Additive construction designed for practical assembly.

The design explores how additive manufacturing can produce an integrated airframe with protected rotor areas, defined component locations and geometry that can be revised quickly as the prototype develops.

Project Aim

Create a lightweight hobby-drone platform that supports rapid prototyping, straightforward assembly and future design changes.

Key Considerations

Mass distribution, motor mounting, propeller clearance, frame stiffness, component access, wiring routes and printable geometry.

Potential Manufacturing Route

FDM 3D printing for iterative chassis prototypes, with material and print orientation selected around stiffness, impact resistance and mass.

Validation

Flight stability, structural strength, vibration, motor/propeller compatibility and electrical integration require physical assembly and controlled testing.
