Consumer Information & Cancellation
Last updated: 29 August 2026 · Version 10.0
This website is enquiry-only: submitting an enquiry does not place an order. Consumer contracts, if offered, are formed only through a separate quotation or agreement that provides the applicable pre-contract information.
Information before a consumer contract
Before a distance contract is formed, the written quotation or agreement should identify the trader and service address; describe the main service or goods; explain the total price or how it will be calculated; cover payment, timing, delivery and complaint handling; and explain applicable cancellation rights.
Service cancellation period
For many distance service contracts, a consumer normally has 14 days from the day after the contract is made to cancel without giving a reason. If the consumer expressly asks for work to start during that period and then cancels, a proportionate amount may be payable for work properly completed up to cancellation.
Completion during the cancellation period
The right to cancel a service can be lost once the service has been fully performed where the consumer expressly requested early performance and acknowledged the effect on the cancellation right. This should be recorded in writing where relevant.
Custom-made goods
Certain made-to-order or clearly personalised goods may fall within an exception to the change-of-mind cancellation right. This does not remove rights relating to faulty goods, goods not as described, or services not provided with reasonable care and skill.
How to cancel
Send a clear statement to hello@solidstead.co.uk, quoting your name, project reference and the date of the agreement. You may use the model wording below but do not have to.
Model cancellation wording
To SOLIDSTEAD Engineering Design: I give notice that I cancel my contract for the following service or goods: [describe]. Ordered/agreed on: [date]. Name: [name]. Address: [address]. Date: [date].
Refunds and complaints
Any refund, return or deduction depends on the contract type, work already requested and completed, and the applicable statutory rules. See the Complaints page for how to raise a concern.
Nothing here removes statutory rights
This page is a general summary for an enquiry-led service. Project documents must be checked against the actual service or goods supplied. Consumers retain all mandatory rights under applicable UK law.
